It was just before 6:00 PM on Friday, January 15, 2010 as I was turning onto Deer Street in Portsmouth, NH, right across from Ken Smith's store, Maine-ly New Hampshire, to drop off my wife at a local shop. There's Smith's pick-up parked in the 15 minute meter spot outside his store. I walked over and the meter is expired! So I snapped the pictured below and hung around until he left his shop - about 6:20. During that time I called the parking department to inform them of the violation...afterall, Ken Smith is not just a Portsmouth City Councilor, he is also Chairman of the Portsmouth Parking Committe.
Why can Ken Smith, Portsmouth City Councilor and Parking Committe Chairman, park for more than 15 minutes in a 15 minute parking spot, and why was his meter expired? Does he get special privilages? Is Ken Smith above the rules and laws of Portsmouth? He obviously thinks he is!
